Corresponding authors from VU Amsterdam and VU University Medical Center can publish open access in a broad selection of hybrid and full open access Elsevier journals free of charge. Included in this selection are well-known titles such as Cell Reports, Cell Reports Medicine, Cell Reports Physical Science, Cell Calcium, The Lancet Public Health, The Lancet Digital Health, The Lancet Planetary Health and The Lancet Global Health. Unfortunately, the deal does not apply to Nature, Cell and The Lancet.
You can check whether or not a journal is included in the selection in the VU Journal Publishing Guide. Please ensure that you note the conditions with regard to the submission date, which varies for each journal and is indicated in the VU Journal Publishing Guide. Articles submitted before this date do not qualify for free open access publication.
More information about the procedure can be found on the Elsevier website. Please note that the procedure may still be changed.
The deal is part of an agreement in principle and will apply during the transitional period from 1 January 2020 to 1 May 2020. Elsevier and the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) must still reach final agreement, which, in addition to arrangements for full open access, will also include agreements about tools and services for open science and research data. More information about the preliminary agreement can be found here.
