Free Open Access publishing in Frontiers journals for VU researchers
You can submit an application from 1 March 2019.

The University Library has arranged a pre-paid arrangement with Open Access publisher Frontiers for 2019. This means that VU researchers (who did not use this scheme before) can publish in a Frontiers journal free of charge from 1 March 2019. The funding comes from a special VU budget, therefore researchers from the VUmc can not use the scheme. The University Library reimburses the Article Processing Costs (APC) as long as there is sufficient budget.
Conditions for an application
We find it important that the VU Frontiers budget can be used by as many different researchers as possible. That is why there are new conditions this year. The arrangement can only be used (as long as there is sufficient budget) by:
- corresponding authors from the VU University,
- who did not make use of the VU Frontiers 'pre-paid arrangement' in 2018.
- You can only apply for an article that you submit after 1 March (with a maximum of one article per corresponding author).
As soon as the VU Frontiers budget is exhausted, we will report this via the UB website and VUnet. Check before you submit your article on this UL-webpage if the VU Frontiers arrangement is still in effect.
How does it work?
When submitting your manuscript at Frontiers, select under 'VU University Amsterdam'. The Article Processing Costs (APC) for your publication are then automatically fully reimbursed by the library. Check before you submit your article if the regulation is still in effect on this UL-webpage.
