‘In 2018, around 48% of the publications at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam were published Open Access. The authors often used the VSNU's Open Access deals with discounts (up to 100%) on the Article Processing Charge’, said Arjan de Rooy, open access specialist at the University Library. ‘We are glad to assist any researchers at VU Amsterdam who would like to make use of the VSNU's Open Access deals. Our website for example provides an overview of Open Access Agreements and the VU Journal Publishing Guide.’
9,000 quality journals
‘The VSNU's Open Access Agreements cover over 9,000 quality journals from publishers including Oxford University Press, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis and Elsevier. In addition, VU Amsterdam has concluded a number of Open Access deals with other publishers.’
VU Journal Publishing Guide
‘The VU Journal Publishing Guide shows you at a glance whether the VSNU's agreements involve any journals from your discipline. In the online guide, you can see the key journals of your field with their impact and metrics, whether a journal allows Open Access publishing, whether VU Amsterdam or the VSNU have concluded an Open Access deal with a journal and to what the resulting discount on the Article Processing Charge amounts.’
Corresponding authors with a VU Amsterdam/VU University Medical Center affiliation
De Rooy: ‘Taking advantage of the VSNU's Open Access deals is possible if you are the corresponding author of the publication and you have been appointed at VU Amsterdam or VU University Medical Center. On submitting an article, always enter your work email address at VU Amsterdam or VU University Medical Center (never enter your private email address). In this way, the publisher's computer system will immediately recognise you as an author from VU Amsterdam or VU University Medical Center. The University Library website contains information about how to submitting your article to any of the publishers.’
Plan S and the VSNU's Open Access deals
‘While Plan S is still far from settled at the moment, what is certain is that you will meet its criteria if you publish in one of the journals covered by the VSNU's Open Access deals during the transition period (until late-2021).’
