The impact factor is the citation rate of a scientific journal and can be calculated as the mean citation rate of all the articles contained in the journal in a given period (year).

Impact factors of many scientific journals are published in the e-resource Journal Citation Reports (JCR), part of ISI Web of Knowledge. There is a JCR Science Edition and a JCR Social Science Edition.
