Open access and subscription agreement between Wiley and Dutch universities


The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and John Wiley and Sons, Inc., today announced an agreement of unlimited open access publication of Dutch academic articles combined with expanded subscription access to high-quality research.

Launch LibGuides for information literacy


Since January 18, 2016 the University Library has an interactive learning environment for students and researchers so that they can increase their information literacy. This was delivered in the format of LibGuides. LibGuides is a global platform in which universities offer their information literacy courses and make them available for reuse.

The University Library of the Vrije Universiteit organized a seminar on scientific publishing for PhD students on October 22, 2015. The video's and slides are now available as weblectures.

Extended set of topographic maps available on Geoplaza


In the Image Database (Beeldbank) you can now find an extended set of the frequently consulted maps of the Topographische en Militaire kaart van het Koningrijk der Nederlanden (TMK).

Large crowd attended seminar on scientific publishing


A 100 plus crowd of PhD’s attended the seminar ‘How to publish a world class paper’ on Thursday 22 October 201. Another 93 followed the event via a live stream.

Open Access week – Christmas is over!


At the start of the Open Access week rector Vinod Subramaniam, on behalf of VU Amsterdam, signed the petition Moving Forwards on Open Access of the League of Research Universities (LERU).

Open Access week starts at VU with symposium on sharing data


Monday October 19, the first day of the Open Access Week 2015, rector magnificus Vinod Subramaniam opened the symposium Connecting Data for Research at the VU. More than 100 participants from all over the Netherlands discussed the importance of sharing research data and the many issues that are related to it.

Online readers and copyright: how to deal with it?


VU instructors are permitted to create online readers from journal articles and book chapters, and make these readers available to students. Copyright laws need to be taken into account, however, when compiling readers. The University Library helps you with information, consulting hours and a workshop.

Medical Library open again


The Medical Library in the VUmc hospital opened again 22 September.

Workshops on combining financial data


Research Data Services offers workshops for both bachelor & master students and researchers who need financial type data. These workshops will give you hands-on experience when using several databases and combining datasets using Excel.
