Privé-bezit van G.J. Buitink met ca. 400 werken uit de 16e-20e eeuw.
Over the course of many years, the collector Gert-Jan Buitink built up a collection of psalm books. After his death in 2008 the Buitink family decided to transfer the books to the VU (see our News Archive UL).
The collection documents in great detail how the Dutch Reformed-Protestant psalm book, and in particular the Geneva Psalter, originated, developed and spread throughout Europe. In addition the collection also contains various rare publications of other Dutch hymnbooks, including the 'Souterliedekens', and also the 'Zeeuwsche Nachtegael', the 'Boertigh (...) liedt-boeck', the 'Geuse liet-boeck' and various other worldly songbooks.
The collection is an important addition to the works that have a bearing on Protestantism within the VU collection, and also strengthens its position as the Study Center for Protestant Book Culture.
